St. Xavier's Kolkata is best known for its Commerce Department especially B.Com (Hons). The level of Maths and Statistics that is taught is not too high. It is taught considering all types of Students (good or average at Maths). The faculty is experienced and you can easily understand whatever is taught in class.
First year Maths and Stats can be a cakewalk for you, if you're quite good at basics of it. From second year, the level rises and you'll be required to learn new things. On an overall level, I can say, it is better than what is taught in other Commerce colleges. (Since, all the students are from Maths background).

Well, according to me, going to the college and pursuing degree is best and effective than online or distance education. In distance education, you can't learn as effective as college goers. In distance education, it keeps on going as per the syllabus, and if you encounter any doubt, you need to write it down and send them and wait until they reply. If you are learning through a video, you have to rewind the video again and again and watch the concept carefully until and unless you understand the concept. You are required to have a strong knowledge of it. A habit of regular newspaper reading and magazine reading will be a great advantage. Reading good books of GK such as GK yearbooks will provide good information. Due to its vastness, this section can be little challenging.
