There are many types of courses in fashion designing field.
First is B.Des i.e., Bachelor of Designing which most of the design students wish to pursue. It is a 4-year course under the branch you choose which can be apparel, footwear, accessories, automobile, furniture, interior designing, etc.
Second is BA in fashion designing which is simply Bachelor of Arts in fashion designing. It is a 3-year course where one studies the basics of every possible branch of fashion designing.
The third is B.Voc (Bachelor of Vocation) in fashion designing which is a vocational course of 5 years. In this, the first three years are of graduation, whereas, the last two years are for postgraduation. It is an integrated course of Bachelor's and Master's degree. The subjects in this course are very basic and they include basic Hindi, maths and other primary subjects.
Fourth is CAD which stands for computer-aided design. In this course, most of the things you learn are related to computer applications, that is design related software, etc. The duration of this course varies in different colleges. It may be of one month or one and a half month, maybe of six months or a year.
The last course is Diploma which is a 1-2 year course. It can be done after completing class 10th.

On the basic level, interior designers design and create living and working spaces for a variety of customers, either as freelancers or as part of a design firm. Designers often specialize in a particular area such as green spaces, home design or corporate work-spaces.
To be a good interior designer, you need several skills. You need to build some skills and to a few skills are needed to be acquired.

Q- How do you meet tough deadlines? Tell me about a time you completed great work under pressure.
A- Good designers are thoughtful and thorough, but you also want to make sure they know how to prioritize and work well under time constraints.
Q- Whats an example of a project where you disagreed with the clients feedback and how did you handle it? A- Good designers should be able to defend and support their work in a professional, respectful way. You want designers who believe enough in their work not to be steamrolled but also who won't be difficult to work with or refuse to adapt.
Q- Let's say someone tells you to design something without any context. What do you do? A- Nobody likes it, but sometimes designers are asked to create something without a lot of contexts. A good designer can roll with the punches and find answers to their questions whether there's a detailed creative brief or not.
Q- Walk me through your portfolio. Which pieces are you most proud of, and why? A- Every designer should be prepared to showcase their the best work. Make sure you ask them to explain the problem each piece was meant to solve and how they accomplished that.

A- Great graphic designers are team players who ask questions and solicit feedback. A good candidate will feel comfortable collaborating with clients on a project. They should be able to recommend specific file types for review, source files, and deliverables to make the final handoff as smooth as possible.
Q- Describe your creative process. What are the major steps? A - Every designer should have a detailed answer prepared for this. A good designer won't just jump in and start designing. Great designers begin by trying to understand the problem they're being asked to solve. Depending on the project, they might interview users or look through data to determine the best course of action. They should also allow for at least one round of substantive feedback and iteration before they submit their final designs.

Prefer IIT Bombay anytime over State School of Design, when it comes to B.Des Industrial design. If you have a credible body of specimen work done by you, as is expected of the students of top-notch design schools, you might get placed right on the Campus itself.or you might get work orders as a freelancer. The second option, though paying less at the initial stage, keeps the prospects open for you to get enhanced earnings as the reputation grows. So, before your academic terms end, build an impressive spec file, and have soft copies ready. If there is any work worth claiming IPR on, do take care to get these registered, before circulation.
Placements are good as there is a high demand for designers in the market. During my time, a lot of service companies like TCS, Infosys etc. came to campus for placement. However, the trend has changed to Product companies now. The minimum package you can expect is around 8L per annum and the maximum goes up to 24L for a fresher.

Going for the higher studies or getting a job after completing Bachelors in visual arts is totally up to you. If you want to do a government job or you are very keen to study further then you should go for higher studies. Otherwise, if you want to do private jobs only, then it's better you start early because in the industry, experience is always more valuable than a Master's degree. So, why to pay fee for another two years. It's better you earn money and add up to your experience because what you learn in the industry is totally different than what you learn in the college.
