The application process is divided into two stages by SMVDU. May 15, 2024, was the deadline for Phase 1 application forms to be submitted for BTech, BArch, MSc, and MA programs. May 22, 2024, was the deadline for submitting applications for the PhD program. The deadline for MBA application forms closed on May 24, 2024. The second phase of application forms for BTech, BArch, BA, BSc, and BBA were accessible on the fifteenth day following the announcement of the JEE/CUET-UG 2024 common rank list.

SMVDU admission process are both entrance and merit-based followed by counselling. SMVDU accepts the admission on the basis of CUET exam for most of the UG & PG courses. For few courses such as BTech, MBA, M.Tech admission are based on JEE/CAT/MAT/GATE/CCMT.

SMVDU admits students based on the rank obtained in JEE/JOSAA/CSAB/UCEED for engineering programs and CUET-UG/CUET-PG for undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Sciences, Management and Humanities. Admission in MBA programme will be based on CAT/MAT/CMAT/CUET score along with score obtained in GD/PI (CAT, 2023/MAT (Sept/. 2023/Dec.2023/Feb.2024/May, 2024/CMAT 2024 in first phase.In second phase for vacant seats in MBA programme CUET (PG) will be considered). Candidates who wish to take admission to the BSc Hons programme offered at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University are required to appear for an entrance examination. The University and its affiliated colleges accepts the scores of CUET UG. Therefore, Class 12 marks are not enough for SMVDU BSc Hons course admission.

Candidates seeking admission to the BSc Hons programme offered at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University are required to appear for the CUET-UG which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) every year for admission to the undergraduate programmes.
