If your Bachelors degree is in the same course in which you are seeking admission, with 6 papers in that subject, you will be admitted on the basis of merit. If it is 3 papers, you will have to appear for an Interview.
If you have done your Bachelors in a subject other than the one you are seeking admission in, you will be selected on the basis of a written test consisting of 2 papers in the subject in which you desire to register for your M.A. degree. Paper 1 will be an essay paper in the subject, and Paper 2 shall be a paper to test your general acquaintance with the subject.

The basic/common eligibility requirement is that the candidate should have completed graduation. The admission procedure varies from university to university. For most colleges the admission process is that you can apply to the college directly.
