Software Engineering is a wide and vast subject. At least for the next 10 years, the IT industry is going to thrive very well due to a lot of investments and opportunities galore. If you have the right skills, it is one of the best professions to learn and make quick money at the same time.

It's really great to know your dreams. One must dream and dream big. You want to become a software engineer. But why SE? Why not software expert? Time to do BE is gone. You can even now become SW expert by doing different courses. I feel this is better for you.

Why shift from Chemical engineering to software? Of course job prospects are better. I would advise you to go for SAP or network related course.
