Regarding the scope in India, lots of projects are getting offshored to Multinational IT Companies in India. This trend is going to continue for long due to low operating costs, easy availability of resources and a lot of other positive factors like skills, communication and language.

It's really great to know your dreams. One must dream and dream big. You want to become a software engineer. But why SE? Why not software expert? Time to do BE is gone. You can even now become SW expert by doing different courses. I feel this is better for you.

Why shift from Chemical engineering to software? Of course job prospects are better. I would advise you to go for SAP or network related course.
