I'm in a situation to advise you that you have to learn JAVA or any other programming language while you are free
in this competitive world, you have to smile.
it's better to learn JAVA if you want to become a software engineer.

Among all these branches of engineering, maximum scope is there for software engineering and networking.Since many people opt for software engineering, you need to be very skilled to get placed in a good company and also with a good salary. The colleges are very important especially for these courses.
Though many colleges offer these courses, all are not good for it. So choose the right college.

Since software engineering is based on computer science, there are some other degree options in engineering stream as well as arts stream that are related to computer science.
Some of them are:
1) Computer Science engineering
2) Information technology
3) Bachelor of computer applications
4) Bachelor of Science computer Science
5) Master of computer applications
6) Master is Science computer Science
These are other options other than software engineering that are related to computer science stream.

Research and get to know what you are good at and what is presently required for industry. Your side experiences, internships & whom you take as references are of utmost importance to get high-end placements. Like many of the B.Tech/M.Tech graduates opt for MBA today for better jobs, better than the are presently having.

Package depending upon student's calibre, smartness, scores in his/her semester, eagerness about knowledge and many other aspects so you have to be serious about your study. No one is bad as SRM is one of the good universities so it is not bad if you are not getting any IIT.

Software engineering is a course in which you can get jobs in almost all companies as they require members in the technical team. Though software engineering is widely preferred for IT sector, you can get jobs easily both in India as well as overseas.
You need to study in the best institute to get high salary jobs.
So, there is really good scope for software engineering in India, but you need to be very skilled and also better than your counterparts.
