At the moment the Southern Academy of Maritime Studies SAMS, Chennai is not fully closed but functioning under restrictions. The Directorate General of Shipping through a circular has restrained SAMS from enrolling any fresh students for any of its course until it takes measures to address various remarked shortcomings that included fees recovery and instructors’ suitability. The institute has been in existence from 1993 and covers different area of maritime courses.

Yes offcourse T. S Chanakya (IMU Mumbai campus) is the best college of Nautical Science all over India in terms of quality of students and infrastructure. Campus is far better than other campus with all facilities. Yes it indeed is good to join but only if you can clear IMUCET-the entrance test for admission to IMU. IMU is the central government university and if you are interested in merchant navy then you should hit to one of the campuses of IMU. Be very clear of what stream you want to choose (B.Sc, B.Tech, DNS, etc.it is costly B.E. / B.Tech (12 courses) 3 L - 18.6 L . The placement rate recorded in IMU Kochi placement drive 2021 was 22% which was much lower than the last year's placement rate which was 52% in 2020. The college has not released its placement report for the year 2022. However, the 2021 placement statistics are available, according to which 100 students participated in the placement drive of 2021 and out of which 22 students got placed in top companies such as DHL, Airlift, APL Logistics, Adani Group, etc. So, the overall placement rate recorded was 22%. The overall placement rate dropped from 52% in 2020 to 22% in 2021. Placement package for Bsc nautical Science student is 36k-45k. and for DNS is 33k-35k, for MBA students package is 20k - 25k, for B.Tech placement is poor in chennai camp

The placement records are comparatively improving year by year providing great expo to the cadets.Placements: Around 90% cadets get placements on campus, depending upon the type of companies they get placed their salary varies. Chevron, NYK, Pacific Basin, Feet Management, Dynacom, Dynagas, Shell, TORM, MOL and many more. IMU is a well known institution for maritime studies. IMU Kochi offers five academic programmes across Science management streams in Logistics, Transportation, Port Management and similar Maritime disciplines. Studies are very well in IMU and the placements is better for Bsc placements about 70% of students are placed in many streams like MBA and Nautical field. The average salary offered at IMU is 7 lac per annum with the highest package offered being 12 lac per annum and the lowest is 5.5 lac.
