To get admission in SRM University, you need to clear SRMJEE entrance exam.
Your rank should be atleast below 10000 to get admission with a scholarship at SRM University. Without scholarship, your rank would be more than 20000.

No, I don't think so. UPES-Dehradun is also one of the good colleges but it is not better than Thapar, VIT and Manipal University.
I may give you the preference order for the above colleges:
1) VIT University
2) Thapar University
3) Manipal University
4) SRM University
5) UPES Dehradun

VIT:
Good placements, better education and exposure. Campuses like Vellore and Chennai are better for all the courses.
Fee structure is better, but it increases with your rank. For the ranks 25000 and above, the fees will be INR 6-8 lakhs per annum or more.
SRM:
The main campus of SRM University is widely preferred. It offers better education and placements. The infrastructure is also good.
The fees structure is better, but in management quota it will be more.
Prefer VIT University even if you get SRM University. But don't choose Bhopal and Amaravati campuses, as we
