Stony Brook University expects a GPA of 3 on a scale of 4 from international students. Along with GPA, factors such as ACT/SAT scores, English language proficiency scores, prior experiences, and extracurricular participation are equally important to during admission. The minimum requirement for ACT is 19 and the 480 for SAT. The students scoring above the required score have more chances of selection.

As per the university, Stony Brook is test-optional for applicants for the year 2023-24. Stony Brook University evaluates the overall profile of a candidate while giving admission. A holistic review of a candidate's academic record including the overall grade point average (GPA) and strength of curriculum is looked into. Also, other academic and personal factors like co-curricular and community involvement or any special talents or interest of the student are considered while examining their profile for admission.
