Structural engineer can work as a State, County or City employee or for a private firm. A partial list of employers includes Public agencies, private companies such as consulting firms, construction companies, manufacturing companies, large industries, and the Military. As a structural engineer, you design structures that can support their own weight and are safe even during extraordinary events like hurricanes, earthquakes, blizzards, and floods. You develop and use knowledge of the properties and behaviors of steel, concrete, aluminum, timber, and plastic as well as new and exotic materials.
