Given that Yale University is one of the most prominent Ivy League universities, its admittance rate for international students is extremely competitive. Yale's overall acceptance percentage is usually between 4 and 6%, but because of the high volume of applications from all over the world and the university's restricted room for non-U.S. applicants, the rate for international students is sometimes lower. Yale uses the same exacting criteria to examine all applications, taking into account leadership potential, extracurricular accomplishments, academic brilliance, and personal traits. If English is not their first language, foreign students must also prove their English language skills on assessments such as the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test.

Although there is some competition to get into University College Dublin (UCD), the programme and your academic background will determine how challenging it is. Some programs are more competitive than others, especially in subjects like business, computer science, and medicine, because UCD is one of Ireland's best institutions and draws a varied group of international students. Strong academic performance—typically passing minimum grade criteria in pertinent subjects—is required to be considered for admission. For instance, Indian students must often receive a high percentage (about 75% or greater, depending on the program) on their Class 12 exams to be admitted as undergraduates. The prerequisite for postgraduate programs is a bachelor's degree with a strong GPA (often 2.1 equivalent or better, roughly 60-70%). International students must also show that they are proficient in English; the majority of programs require an IELTS score of 6.5 (no band lower than 6.0) or comparable TOEFL/PTE results.

Depending on the program's language of instruction, Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) Munich may require overseas students to take the IELTS. The IELTS is one of the recognised examinations for demonstrating English language competency, which is required for programs taught in that language. Although some programs may have more stringent prerequisites, generally speaking, applicants must have an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or above. English proficiency is normally not required for programs taught in German; instead, students must demonstrate their competency in the German language with assessments such as TestDaF or DSH. However, if a programme offers coursework in both German and English, it may require both languages to be proficient.
