Other well liked and sought-after courses offered by IMUC include the B.Tech in Maritime Administration, the M.Tech in Marine Engineering, the M.Tech in Nautical Science, and the MBA in Maritime Studies.The Indian Maritime University (IMU) was established as a Central University through an Act of Parliament (Act 22) in November 2008, under the aegis of the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. It is a teaching cum affiliating University, with its headquarters in Chennai and six regional campuses in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkatta, and Visakhapatnam. It also has 18 affiliated institutes. The University is a member of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), an association dedicated to the enhancement of global Maritime excellence. IMU offers a wide range of courses in Maritime Studies, leading to an award of UG, PG, and PhD degrees in various disciplines. These courses are offered through its four schools namely, School of Maritime Management, School of Marine Engineering & Technolgy, School of Nautical Sciences and School of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering. Admission to all the programmes is conducted through IMU CET, followed by a counselling process. The University reserves seat for special states, including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands, eight north-eastern states (including Sikkim), and Jammu & Kashmir. Before the foundation of IMU, there were seven renowned teaching and research institutes under the Ministry of Shipping.

SIMTS Chennai's B.Tech placements are fine, but in comparison with established engineering colleges, the quantity of B.Tech programs and their placement results at SIMTS Chennai aren't huge yet a few positive indicators emerge if you look carefully enough. the total success rate of B.Tech at SIMTS in 2023 was over 84 %. Some B.Tech specializations such as Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) purportedly hit even higher than 90 % placement rates, it is said.The university is also apparently a popular place to arrange campus placements with firms such as Reliance Industries, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and Khaitan & Co. In 2023 the highest reported package offered to a graduate of SIMTS was INR 1.2 LPA) or so for B, Tech graduates only! The latter may average a lower (reasonable) package, but generally points to possible career opportunities.
