The Indian Maritime University (IMU) Chennai-Mumbai Campus MERI was ranked 84th among Indian universities by UniRank in 2021.  The ICRA grading system gave the Chennai campus a grade 1. IMU Chennai offers degree, diploma, and certification programs in Marine Sciences.  The Chennai campus is considered the best for Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS).  The IMU Mumbai campus is considered the best option after IMU Chennai for Nautical Sciences.  IMU Mumbai is one of the top-ranked colleges for marine engineering. Around 80-85% of students are placed in their course. Top recruiting companies include Maersk Tankers and Scorpio.  IMU Chennai recorded the highest package of 6 LPA in the 2022 placement drive. Top recruiters include Bruhart Logistics, Cisco Shipping, and DB Schenker. 

The Indian Maritime University (IMU) is a public central university in India.   It was established in 2008 by an Act of Parliament and is under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.   IMU was established to develop trained human resources for the maritime sector.   It is the only university of its kind in India.  The Mumbai campus of IMU was the first pre-sea training institution in India. It was originally under the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai in the Ministry of Shipping. LBS CAMSAR is a post-sea Maritime Education and Training Institution that offers courses for Merchant Navy personnel.

The Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) is located at Thiruvarur in Tamil Nadu. CUTN has an active placement cell that offers various placement opportunities to its students so that they can be well-set up at in the corporate world. According to the university records, it succeeded in offering decent placements to nearly 60% of the students. The average packages offer range from 8LPA-10 LPA while the highest salary package offered was that of 25 LPA. These packages and the chance of getting a placement entirely depends on the student's course or majors as well. Technical courses enjoy a better edge in this case for being recruiting students in various institutes as compared to other non-core courses.The average package for UG courses was INR 2.4 LPA, and for PG (2-year) and Integrated PG courses, the average package was INR 3.46 LPA and INR 4.78 LPA, respectively.
