As far as advantage of being a Sales Tax consultant concerns, you need to have proper qualification which is:
1. CA/ CMA + LL.B. Preferred. It gives you good money but you really need to work hard to build rapport, learn skills and ability to negotiate well with client as well as Government authority. The Indian Revenue Service (IRS) is one of the Premier Civil Services (Group "A") of India. IRS comprises IRS (C and CE) and IRS (IT). IRS officers are concerned with the:
1. Collection
2. Administration and
3. Policy Formation of Direct and Indirect Taxes. Selection is through the Civil Services Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission through a three-stage combined selection process. IRS Officer Trainees undergo a three month foundation training with fellow officers from All India Services and other Central Services (Group AAT Lal Bahadur National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) followed by a 15 month rigorous professional training in NACEN Faridabad for the officers of Customs and Excise or NADT Nagpur for officers of Income Tax, where they are intensively trained in:
1. Principles.
2. Concepts and Advances in Management.
3. Taxation.
4. Public Policy and
5. Law. Alternatively, the S. C. conducts an exam every year for recruitment to the following posts:
1. Inspector of Central Excise.
2. Examiner in Custom House.
3. Preventive officer in Custom Houses.
4. Inspector of Income Tax in different charges of the commissioner of Income Tax.
5. Assistant Enforcement officers in the Directorate of Enforcement (FERA). The exam is held once a year, generally in the month of April. A candidate must have the age of 18 years and must have not attained the age of 25 years and a candidate must hold degree of a recognised university or equivalent. The minimum educational qualification is a Bachelors degree with Hindi and English as main subjects. The exam consists of a written Exam and an interview for personality Test.
