Yes, TCG CREST has its own entrance exam, which is referred to as the "TCG CREST written qualifying test." This test is a part of the admission process for candidates who fall under Channel 3. Candidates who have not qualified for any national-level test must qualify in the TCG CREST written test to be shortlisted for an interview. Admission to the PhD programme at TCG CREST is not granted without either a National level fellowship or an Institutional fellowship of TCG CREST, and this written test is one of the pathways to eligibility for the programme.

All candidates must qualify in either a national-level test conducted by a national body or a national-level test conducted by TCG CREST.The selection process includes an interview.The final selection is based on performance in the final interview conducted as per AcSIR guidelines.

Eligibility for the RISE PhD programme at TCG Crest requires highly motivated candidates with either an MSc in Physics, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field, or an ME/MTech in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related areas of Material Science. Preference is given to candidates who have already qualified in national-level tests such as NET, INSPIRE, JEST, GATE, DST, DBT, RGNF, or other exams conducted by national-level bodies.
