In addition, you may need to gain teaching and research experience as a graduate assistant, or gain work experience in settings like governmental, nonprofit, and the private sector related to your field of study. UGC NET is conducted twice a year in order to select candidates for only Assistant Professor or both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges, so you could apply for the NET exam. This is a grey area and I will advise you to contact UGC directly. As per news and updates, if a candidate has registered before 2009 there is no need to take the NET but there is no update on how far this has been implemented. The requirements also depend on your area of research, university recognition in India and so on. You may also contact some universities and create a personal rapport to understand the requirements and flexibility. Unfortunately, nothing much can be advised now. You may go through these which are just proposals.
