NET exam was introduced in the year 1989 by UGC (University Grants commission) and CSIRand conducted by National testing Agency (NTA). The candidate should score atleast 55% in master's degree or equivalent examination from UGC recognised colleges.

Eligibility Criteria:
1- UGC NET Educational Qualification 2023:
Students must have completed their post-graduation from a UGC-recognised college or university. A relaxation of five percent in educational qualification is given to reserved category students. Students who have cleared SET (State Eligibility Test) before June 1, 2002, are exempted from taking the UGC NET exam.
2- UGC NET Age Limit 2023:
1- Students should not be more than 30 years of age in order to be eligible for NTA NET JRF.

Hi Prabhat even if you have selected subject group Science after belonging from Commerce Background you can edit this preference. But if you have basic knowledge of the subject then just go for it and must give the test of UPTET.

No, it is not compulsory in many universities as they conduct their own Doctor of Philosophy entrance exam followed by interviews or counseling. And if you are National Eligibility Test qualified then you will be exempted from the entrance exam. However, top institutes prefer candidates with National Eligibility Test/State Eligibility Test certificates. Also, the National Eligibility Test/State Eligibility Test is compulsory for lecturership eligibility till now. Yes, you can take the UPTET exam with your NTT Diploma. You are eligible to apply for a teaching position in primary classes. According to the eligibility criteria of UPTET, one can appear for this exam if they have done any of the following:
1. A Bachelor's degree with an NTT Diploma course
2. A Bachelor's degree with two years of B. T. C.

For UGC NET one can choose subject studied at PG level or subject the nearest to your PG subject. You can choose management / commerce/ economics. After qualifying for NET while applying for teaching jobs your PG subjects are considered. Best wishes.
