SASTRA is deemed to be a university. Also, SASTRA is a well-known engineering college in southern India. Providing quality education and lab infrastructure at an affordable fee is its most positive point. Recently, SASTRA got Institution of Engineering and Technology(IET) accreditation.
1- Infrastructure and college atmosphere:
First of all, we need a good environment around us. Then we could study and enjoy ourselves as well. For first-year candidates, SPS Hostel will be allotted because it's a good hostel.
There are two costly research centers worth INR 100 crore, ASK1, and ASK2. Mechanical, electronics and communication engineering, civil engineering, etc., are good labs. Classrooms with projectors. They are decent. You have a post office and an ATM near the boy's hostel and girls' hostels. Krishna Canteen, which serves some tasty vegetarian food for decent prices. Non-vegetarian food is not available on campus. If you want non-vegetarian food, you can go directly across the street to Red Chilli and Green Leaf. Don't expect it to be spectacular, but it does have good taste.
2- Faculty and Education Curriculum
I can say 78 out of 10 staff are good at SASTRA. Some staff will give you concepts, and some will give you notes. Some give both. But as an engineering student, you need to do some self-learning and exploring; they will give you concepts you can apply and help you solve many problems. You should not completely depend on your teacher.
The curriculum is good. They renewed it last year because it is so advanced and good. After switching to this new curriculum, there is more practical exposure for students.
3- Hostel and Food:
The first year, don't expect food to be tastier, and you get a good breakfast and lunch daily, but sometimes dinner might not be as tasty (depending on whether you are from Andhra). From the second hostel, you will change hotels if you take Mega Mess; it is the best.
4- Mark system and scholarships:
Here, they follow the CGPA system.
Many say the CGPA doesn't mean much, but according to me, it's important to maintain a grade above 8, and if you are above 8.5, that's even better.
To get scholarships and the chance to sit for placement at Amazon, Cypress, etc., you need a good CGPA of 8.5. Don't worry. Most companies will allow students with a 7.5 CGPA.
1- Deans list
If you are in the top 2 percent, you will earn between 22 and 24 K.
This year's cutoff for electronics and communication engineering: 9.2 was for computer science and engineering: 9.3.
If you are in the top 3-10 percent, you will receive a scholarship of 11-12K.
Computer Science and Engineering: 8.9 was the cutoff.
Electronics and Communication and Engineering: 8.7
2- Hostel Scholarship:
You will be given 16000 if you are eligible for 400 students, irrespective of branch year, but it depends on your CGPA.
5- Placement:
According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework Report 2023, SASTRA University recorded 88 percent and 81 percent hiring rates for Bachelor of Technology and Bachelor of Legislative Law (BA LLB) (Hons.) candidates during SASTRA University placements in 2022. The median package offered to Master of Technology and Bachelor of Legislative Law (BA LLB) (Hons.) students was INR 5.50 Lakh Per Annum and INR 4.50 Lakh Per Annum during placements in 2022, respectively.
6- Sports and Cultural:
There are three fests.
Kuruksastra: Cultural
Colosseum: sports
Daksh, technical
There are so many clubs like the Telugu, Hindi, English, and Tamil Lits, Arts, Dance, and Sastra Music Teams; if you are talented, you can join these clubs and get a chance to perform on the Kuruksastra stage.
7- Fee Structure:
On average, per year, it would be around
Tuition Fee: Rs. 65,000 per semester + (Development Fee: $10,000 to be paid when you join in the first semester; this won't be charged again).
Hostel fee: 10,000 SPS (for first-year students)
However, from the second year, you get options:
4-in-1(attached bath)-16000
5in-1(shared bath)-10000
2-in-1(common bath)-12000
2-in-1(attached bath)-20000
single room with attached bath (24,000)
Mess fee: 3300 to 3700 per month (based on days of the month)
