We should not compare the two, both the universities are good at their place. But as a student of LPU I would like to say LPU is best because in India LPU is one of best private university. Believe me nobody knows Thapar outside Punjab state whereas NITS are known throughout the country.
Due to certain reputation NIT provide better opportunity for higher studies in foreign which you will surely not get in Thapar.
