Hi Swami,
Yes software's are involved as once a booking is done done the same needs to be updated with all concerned departments immediately to avoid confusion hence a software is required.
List of software involved in ticketing/Reservations are:
-Galileo CRS
-Amadeus
-Sabre
-Worlspan etc

Hi Swami,
There is no significant difference in the basic term of ticketing or reservations.As they both imply that a place is booked for a passenger in a mode of travel by an agent(i.e. ticketing or reservation agent).
However in various organizations the two could involve different responsibilities such as:
-A ticketing agent would only;y be responsible for booking a mode of travel from one point to the other mostly an air ticket where as a reservation agent maybe responsible for making all additional reservation such as hotels, pickups, sight seeing etc in case of tour packages.

A computer reservations system or central reservation system is a computerized system used to store and retrieve information and conduct transactions related to air travel, hotels, car rental, or activities. Airlines have divested most of their direct holdings to dedicated GDS companies, who make their systems accessible to consumers through Internet gateways.
Amadeus is of of the most common system used for ticket reservation across the globe, in more than 150 airlines.Hence definitely the knowledge would prove to be a huge factor for selection.

An airline ticket is a document, issued by an airline or a travel agency, to confirm that an individual has purchased a seat on a flight on an aircraft. This document is then used to obtain a boarding pass, at the airport. Then with the boarding pass and the attached ticket, the passenger is allowed to board the aircraft.The process of reserving/Booking the ticket for an individual is known as air ticketing.
For Ticketing course, you may opt for a degree, diploma or even a certificate program.

Air Ticketing & General ticketing are not different. For both the software is different only you need to understand the terms & conditions of ticket booking or reservation system.
