Candidates preparing for CAT simultaneously prepare for TISSNET exam. However, confusion prevails on how to synchronize the CAT exam preparation along with the TISSNET. TISS National Entrance Test is conducted at the University level for admission to Masters (Master of Arts / Master of Science / B.Ed-MEd Integrated ) Programmes of TISS campuses, whereas, CAT is a national level entrance exam conducted by Iims for admission to Iims and other top B-schools across India. The difficulty level of the CAT is relatively higher than the TISSNET exam. Here are the key tips to synchronize the CAT and TISSNET exam preparation:
1. CAT and TISSNET exam syllabus is divided into three sections. Except for General Awareness in TISSNET. Other sections are similar in both exams. Candidates can devise a preparation strategy for both exams simultaneously.
2. The CAT exam is conducted in November, whereas the TISSNET exam is conducted later in February. Candidates must focus on CAT preparation first, as the exam will have a sectional time limit along with the negative marking scheme, hence time management in CAT becomes important. Whereas, in TISSNET there is no sectional time limit and provision for negative marking.
3. Candidates must ensure to solve the previous year's question papers to become familiar with the CAT and TISSNET exam pattern.

TISS releases the TISSNET question paper soon after the exam is conducted. Candidates can download the TISSNET question paper along with the answer key. Tata Institute of Social Sciences conducts the TISS National Entrance Test every year for admission to MA/PG programmes. The exam is conducted at the university level. Candidates who are willing to take admission to M.A. Programmes of TISS must appear for the TISSNET exam to qualify for the selection process. TISSNET exam is conducted in Computer-based mode at various exam centres. The exam is conducted for a duration of 100 minutes (one hour 40 minutes). Candidates will have to attempt 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) within the given time duration. The TISSNET question paper will be divided into three sections viz. English Proficiency (30 MCQs), Mathematical Reasoning & Logical Reasoning (30 MCQs), and General Awareness (40 MCQs).
TISSNET marking scheme is as follows:
a. One mark will be awarded for each correct answer
b. No marks will be deducted for wrong attempts
c. No marks will be deducted for not attempting a question
The objective of the TISSNET exam is to assess the candidate's following skills:
1. English proficiency- Assess English language usage and comprehension
2. Mathematics and Logical Reasoning- Assess quantitative skills and logical reasoning
3. General Awareness- Assess awareness about Current Affairs social-political and developmental issues.

Some of the important topics that are covered under Mathematical and Logical Reasoning section are: Basic Arithmetic, Basic Geometry, basic Trigonometry Basic Statistics Number Series, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning. On the basis of the previous year question papers analysis, candidates can expect the following type of questions from the topics mentioned: Basic Arithmetic includes- Ratio-proportions, HCF-LCM, Time & work, Simple and compound interest, percentages, numbers, etc. Basic Geometry includes- Triangles lines, angles, square & rectangles, circles- radius, diameter, arc, chord, etc. , Cubes, base angle theorem, Pythagoras theorem, and so forth. Logical Reasoning includes- Clocks & calendars, direction, alphabet series, number series, statement conclusion, arguments, assumptions, logical connectivity, Venn diagram, puzzle, and so forth.

Some of the important topics that are covered under English proficiency syllabus are: Word Choice/Sentence Correction, Odd one out, Analogies, Synonyms & Antonyms, Grammar, Verbal reasoning and Reading comprehension. As per the previous year question paper analysis, some of the questions that can be expected from the topics mentions above includes: word substitute in a sentence, right usage of word in fill in the blanks, right usage of word in match the following, fill in the blanks with homophones/idioms, matching and error spotting- words/ grammar/punctuation, short and long reading comprehension. The type of questions asked in Reading Comprehension passage are- strengths and weakness, purpose of the passage, assumption and supporting statements, passage based questions, author's point of view, inference and conclusion, main idea of the passage.

The TISSNET syllabus for General Awareness is vast and gets difficulty to cover every area. This section will consist of total 40 questions. This section is an important factor to bring the candidate's score up or down. To cover the syllabus of General Awareness candidates must focus both on static GK and Current Affairs. As per the previous year's analysis, the maximum number of questions were asked from Static GK. To prepare for the General Awareness section, candidates must follow some of the key tips mentioned:

Read the newspaper regularly to stay updated with the Current Affairs. Candidates can also refer to Manorama year book for updated GK questions. Candidates must purchase the GK study material as per the TISSNET General Awareness syllabus. This section mainly focus over social issues, hence candidates must lay emphasis over the social current issues.

The TISSNET exam consists of three subjects viz. English Proficiency, Mathematics and Logical Reasoning and General Awareness. The TISSNET question paper will consist of 100 questions divided across these three sections. The objective of the TISSNET subjects is as follows:
1. English Proficiency: This section contains 30 questions and It assesses the English language and comprehension usage of the candidate.
2. Mathematics and Logical Reasoning: This section contains 30 questions and it assesses quantitative skills and logical reasoning
3. General Awareness: This section contains 40 questions and it assesses awareness about Current Affairs developmental and socio-political issues.

It is important for candidates must retain the TISSNET hall ticket after the written exam is over. Candidates who will be shortlisted for the TISS PG programme selection process will have to present the required documents along with the TISSNET admit card at the time of admissions. TISSNET admit card is an important document that has to be retained throughout the admission process. Candidates will be required to carry the following documents at the time of admissions:
10th, 12th, and degree original mark sheets and certificates
TISSNET Admit card and scorecard
5 passport size photographs
Caste Certificate (if applicable)
Income Certificate (if applicable)
The documents are required for verification process.

TISSNET admit card can be re-downloaded till the date of examination. Candidates who will register for the TISSNET exam will be able to download the admit card when released. In case candidates have misplaced or lost the TISSNET admit card, they can re-visit the official website of TISS, Mumbai and login with the credentials created at the time of registration. To re-download the TISSNET admit card candidate must follow the steps mentioned below:

Enter the login credentials: Email ID and Password
Click on 'Download TISSNET hall ticket' tab
Screen will display the admit card
Save the admit in your laptop/desktop and take the print of the same.

TISSNET admit card is an important document that has to be carried physically on the day of examination. Candidates will not be permitted to enter the examination hall without the TISSNET hall ticket. In case candidate forgets to carry the TISSNET admit card at the exam centre, he/she must immediately find a nearby cyber cafe to download the admit card again. Candidates must note that there is no provision of getting the duplicate TISSNET admit card at the exam centres. Entry without admit card will be prohibited and no digital admit cards will be accepted. Exam centres are not liable for any loss of items and documents. Candidates must carefully take note of the required documents at the exam centre.
