Candidates should note that both TOEFL and IELTS are English language tests that have been designed for the benefit of students wanting to study in English speaking country abroad. These English proficiency tests will examine the English proficiency skills of the applicant and inform the university whether the candidate is fit for the curriculum. Hence, both exams have been created at par with each other.

The best book to study for your TOEFL exam is the one that has been published by ETS. The ETS is the conducting body of the TOEFL exam, hence, the books and study material available on the official ETS TOEFL website should be your only source of preparation for your TOEFL exam.

The ETS TOEFL exam is divided into four sections, Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. These sections are individually scored on 30 points, bringing the maximum TOEFL score of 120. Hence scoring 120 in the TOEFL section is the maximum a candidate appearing for the TOEFL exam can get.

The TOEFL minimum score cut-off will vary from university to university and country to country. On average, the minimum TOEFL score for most of the universities is 90-110.

There are no minimum passing marks required for the TOEFL exam as each university or educational institution decides its own score range or minimum score required. There is no such thing as a cut-off for the TOEFL score as each university will set its score range according to its own requirements. Score requirements at universities do not change often, and score requirements can vary widely depending on the university and the specific program of study.

The TOEFL test is available online multiple times a year. The TOEFL test is also available in the paper-based module. Candidates should note that the paper-based module is only available in countries with no/limited access to the internet/computers and is held four times a year. The home-based version of the TOEFL test is also an online mode of the exam.
