Yes, if you have cleared the UGC NET exam, you can generally apply for admission to a Ph.D. programme in India. Clearing the UGC NET qualifies you for eligibility to pursue a Ph.D., as it demonstrates your proficiency in the subject area and research capability. Most universities require candidates to meet additional criteria, which may include a personal interview or an entrance test specific to the university. Additionally, the UGC guidelines allow for direct admission to Ph.D. programs based on NET qualification in many institutions

Yes, there is a subject-wise cutoff for the UGC NET exam. The minimum qualifying marks required to pass the UGC NET exam are not uniform across all subjects. The cutoff marks vary. It  depends on the subject, difficulty level of the exam, and the number of candidates appearing for the test. Some subjects might have a higher cutoff, while others may have a lower one.

It is possible to do a PhD without clearing the NET (National Eligibility Test) exam in some cases. Many universities and colleges, including Maharaj Singh College, if affiliated with a recognized university, may have their own entrance exams for PhD admissions. Some institutions may also offer PhD programs based on academic performance (like having a Master’s degree with a high score), MPhil qualifications, or through sponsored research projects. It's best to check the specific PhD admission guidelines of Maharaj Singh College to know their requirements.
