The campus offers excellent athletic facilities for various sports like football, hockey, wrestling, golf, basketball, soccer, softball, baseball, tennis, gymnastics, swimming, diving and volleyball. It has 11 residence halls providing on-campus accommodation to students. Other on-campus facilities include a wellness centre, field house, gymnasium, field house, recreation complex and several museums. Iowa has about 500 student organizations and clubs, focused on games, sports, politics, lifestyle, dance, music, theatre and various other activities. There are 22 sports teams, known as Hawkeyes, which participate in different intercollegiate competitions. Additionally, the institute also has a sports affiliation from NCAA Division I.
