The University of Madras founded the Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras in 1981. Currently the college is offering undergraduate, graduate, certificate, and Diploma programmes in a variety of specialisations. Information Technology (IT), Business, Management, Science, and the Arts are just a few of the subjects in which courses are offered by IDE. Furthermore, IDE runs a placement cell that offers students internships, placements, and training. University of Madras provided regular courses and under it the IDE Madras University provides distance education to students.
