Generally, admission to most M.Tech programs offered at the University of Madras, Guindy Campus or commonly known as UNOM requires TANCET. The entrance examination is specifically held for various postgraduate courses in engineering, technology, and management in the state of Tamil Nadu. GATE scores are also accepted for entry into M.Tech programs. The University of Madras, Guindy Campus (UNOM) is generally rated as the Tier 2 kind of institution in India. A kind of history and excellence in academic value, however, it does not reach to the elite institutions level like IITs or NITs, ranked Tier 1.UNOM offers M.Sc. and M.Tech programs with decent faculty and research facilities. However, in terms of placement and industry acceptance, it finds its place in Tier 2 as compared to premier institutions.

A decent placement record is maintained by University of Madras, Guindy Campus (UNOM), especially because the campus is most renowned for its science and technology courses. Compared with IITs or NITs, this campus is not at par, but good numbers of respectable placement opportunities are offered to the students. Organizations place large numbers of students in science, IT, and management programs.
