The difference between a VFX artist and graphics is, that a visual-effect artist can create special effects and animations. VFX artist can do the mixing up of false and animated images with real film shooting. The main task of a VFX artist is to exaggerate real film shots.
But, a graphic artists can create visual concepts, and not effects using software. They also create layouts, logos and product design for magazines, brochures and commercials. The graphics artist work with both, images and text. They produce all the props that contain graphic items e.g. books, maps, menus, credit card, visiting cards, newspapers etc.

It depends on what you want to study. Studying B.Des from NIFT can give you placement in various areas of fashion industry and studying B.Sc animation and visual effects can place you in a respectable position in VFX industry.

Eligibility of the Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Animation & Multimedia)
For admission to the program, the candidate must have passed in Class 10th with minimum aggregate 50% including all subjects from a recognized school.
The candidate must pass in Class 12th /QE with minimum aggregate of 50% in any stream from a recognized school. Candidates awaiting results of HSC examination can apply too.
