Hi Swapnil,
VIT mechanical engineering department is one of the very good departments. As far as placements are concerned I would like to share an experience of my roommates. Two years back, two M.Tech. 2nd year students were my roommates. I remember that they had sat for an interview of at least 5-6 companies in front of me. Also, there were some more companies for which their profile wasn't suitable.
So, VIT gets many companies for M.Tech students as well. Many students get placed. As I'm from chemical engineering department, I can not tell you the exact number of placed students, but yes - placements are not so bad (as compared to oth

In terms of placement, there are very fewer companies for EI branch. You can change your branch by performing good in one of the core subjects. If you are changing your branch, change it to EEE. They allow EEE to sit in all companies at the time of placements but not EI. The year 2015 was quite successful, especially for electronics and instrumentation branch. The highest package offered was 8 Laca PA by SAP Labs, Next by Asian Paints around 5 Lacs PA which is expected to increase up to 7.5 Lacs PA as per the current scenario.
Average package for electronics and instrumentation branch ranges from 4-8 Lacs.

Civil engineering in VIT is a good option. Faculties are decent and the opportunities of projects are also as per standards of good engineering colleges. However, the problem with civil engineering is that it is literally a dying field. Don't ever anticipate that after 3-4 years, there will be any progress in this field because no matter how many infrastructural projects come up, the intake of civil engineers in core jobs will be same. I don't know why it's that way. Talking about placements in the civil dept. of VIT, it's downright poor. About 30-40%. The best company that recruits from VIT is L&T construction. However, you'll have to

Hi,
The placements of this college are good. But, placements basically depends on your passion in the field and how you make projects and assignments in your final year.
