Unfortunately, the answer to this question is "yes".
CAT preparation won't be sufficient enough for XAT and the same holds true if you are preparing for XAT.
This is because the intention to check on the areas are very different in both the exams.
XAT questions are on difficult side whereas CAT questions are easy to moderate level. Also, XAT has General Knowledge section and Decision making sections that are not covered in CAT syllabus.
Thus perpetration for one exam doesn't assure you are ready for other. But yes, the preparation of CAT will ensure a smooth road for XAT preparation and it would be easier.

It is important that you practice lot of mocks and papers before the main exam. This will give you confidence and sense of familiarity during the paper.
Practicing will also give you the mistakes that you keep committing every now and then. Commit as many mistakes as you can in first few mocks. More you practice, sooner will you run out of common mistakes to commit.
Dont stress out. If you feel the paper is way too tough or way too easy for what youve practiced, dont worry about it. The general trend will be the same an

XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) is conducted every year by XLRI, Jamshedpur.
As per the exam pattern of XAT 2018, it will be an online paper-based test of 3.5 hours duration. The exam is divided into two parts.
Paper 1 consists of three sections carrying around 70 objective type multiple choice questions.
Paper 2 carries two sections which are a mix of objective and subjective type of questions.
The exam shall consist of the following sections:
Paper 1:
1)Quantitative Ability
2)English Language & Logical Reasoning
3)Decision Making
Paper 2:
4)GK
5)Essay
Each question will carry one mark and for each wrong answer, there will be negative marking

In XAT like MAT, there are different sections- Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning and Verbal and Reading Comprehension and GK.
Maths:
Students from non-engineering backgrounds are not too comfortable in QA. If you are not an engineering student then you must focus in this section to improve your score, which will impact overall MAT percentile.
The most important topics being - Logarithm, Algebra, Geometry, Permutation and Combination and Probability.
LR/DI:
Again a section where high-scoring can be done as this is comparatively easier than the others. You should focus on Data Sufficiency,
