I do not think at all that any education done from an approved place with honesty can be looked down upon. While doing CAT Preparation, it may not be possible to devote full time to a regular course so doing a Distance Course is safeguarding your gap year. Suppose I am a BBA or B.A. And I am preparing for CAT for MBA. I may start doing some PG Diploma in Journalism and Mass Comm or Advertising and PR. That won't do any harm, rather I can present that I did not stop studying.

The primary eligibility of MBA is Graduation and no other course after graduation is needed or will be considered for addition to eligibility. However, that course shall give advantage while you face the interview and this comes as an additional qualification of yours. Another clarification is that there shall be no difference in the value of Marks whether that is Distance or Regular.

Yes, of course you can give all MBA entrance exams, like CAT, SAT, MAT, GMAT. But, for that you need to be well practiced thoroughly. Learnt each and every topic of the syllabus, and you are well prepared mentally to give the exams rather. If you have anything low in your preparations, please give time for the exams.

Some reference books are not enough, if you're studying for MAT or GMAT especially on your own that is. Firstly, if you're studying on your own, make sure that you spend at least 6 hours a day with at least 4-6 months of determined attention towards your studies. Secondly, there are a lot of YouTube tutorials on the Internet that'll help you do the right kind of preparation and keeping the schedule. Finally, coaching for these exams separately or altogether will cost you a lot, so keep that in mind and fuel that as your passion. If you can study this way, you can make a difference. So don't just go by some reference book by the market.

You need to start preparing at least one and a half year prior to when you wish to appear for the exams. So, if you start preparing halfway down the 2nd year then at the end of the 3rd year you are good to go.
