All the courses at Royal Holloway except a few language courses are taught in English only. As a result, you must have adequate spoken and written English skills to handle your studies from the very beginning. For applicants to the 2023–2024 academic year, they can now accept the following globally acknowledged online English language qualifications:

• IELTS (this includes the IELTS indicator)
• Pearson Test of English
• Cambridge ESOL
• TOEFL iBT (this includes the Special Home Edition)
• OCTOE English Test
• Duolingo test scores

*The entry requirements have not changed since the IELTS indicator and TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition scores are reported in the same manner as the results of the regular IELTS and Toefl exams.

The scores vary between individual departments for UG’s but the average score of IELTS should be 5.5 . Your IELTS qualification must be a SELT if one of your IELTS subscores is below 5.5.

The TOEFL iBT can not be used as a SELT. (Secure English Language Test) 

All the PG degree require:

• IELTS score overall: 6.5. writing 7.0. No scores with a lower value than 5.5.
• Overall 61 on the Pearson Test of English. 69. Writing. No subscores below 51 exist.
• English language proficiency test administered by Trinity College London: ISE III.
• Grade C for Advanced (CAE) in Cambridge English.

• TOEFL iBT: 88 overall, including reading scores of 18, listening scores of 17, speaking scores of 20, and writing scores of 26.

1. Higher Secondary School Certificate

 Higher Secondary Certificate holders from India will be given consideration for direct entry into undergraduate programmes. The entry requirement will depend on the course you intend to enrol in at Royal Holloway, although most departments will demand an overall grade of 80% to 85% with 85% in any subjects listed in the GCE A-level entry criteria for the course.

     2. A levels & International Baccalaureate (IB)

     3. University preparation programmes

For overseas students who don't meet the requirements for an undergraduate programme, the Royal Holloway overseas Study Centre offers the International Foundation Year and International Year One programmes. For PG’s

1. Master’s degree

Students will be given consideration for admission to a Royal Holloway Master's degree programme if they have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with good grades or GPA. The specific requirements will depend on the Royal Holloway programme you intend to enrol in and the university you previously attended, however departments will often demand an overall grade between 55% and 65%.
