- Applicants will normally be required to hold an honours degree, usually in music. Other clinically related disciplines such as psychology, teaching, nursing, or social work, and graduate level professional qualifications in appropriate disciplines such as the performing arts, Occupational Therapy and Social Work are also considered where music skills are demonstrably sufficient.
- Applicants need to evidence that they can meet the academic demands of a Masters degree and will be required to prepare and submit a written personal statement to support their application.
- A professional standard of proficiency on an instrument (including voice).
- Keyboard/piano skills of approximately grade 5 (where piano is not the preferred instrument) or equivalent ability on another harmony instrument, and confidence with voice. The potential to use musical skills in professional Music Therapy practice and the ability to communicate musically.
- It is expected that applicants will have extensive experience either having worked professionally or having practiced extensively within their specific arts modality.
- An understanding of the nature of music therapy as a distinctive discipline (in particular as practised in the UK).
- Applicants should demonstrate a maturity of personality and self-awareness compatible with training as a therapist. Applicants need an appropriate degree of psychological mindfulness including the capacity to form and maintain appropriate empathic relationships with clients. They should also demonstrate emotional literacy, robustness and an ability to be self-reflective. This is addressed through a combination of assessments, including a health screening form, searching questions at interview related to different parts of the training course and experiential work at interview/audition.
- Applicants will be expected to have appropriate clinical experience of having worked within a setting and with clients relevant to the programme. This might include working with children, adults or older adults in the areas of learning disabilities, mental health, hospice care, dementia care, neuro-disability, homelessness etc (this is not an exhaustive list). This work can be undertaken either on a voluntary or employed basis.
- Applicants must hold a second-class honours degree from a recognised British or overseas university.
- Non-graduates with appropriate professional qualifications will be considered on an individual basis
- Those with a third-class honours degree are encouraged to complete an application as we will consider an applicant's wider circumstances in making a decision on an application.

Valuable learning experience with friendly faculty.
Tips: The University of Roehampton provides a diverse and supportive learning environment. It's important to engage with faculty and use all the resources provided, such as the library, career support, and guidance. In addition, getting involved with student societies like the RSU and Desi Society is a great way to meet new people and make friends.
Likes (Safety): The campus is safe whether it's day or night. There's no bullying or harassment. The university has taken steps to make the campus safe, such as installing 24/7 CCTV cameras, lighting the pathways, and providing a student support team. They also offer mental health support and workshops.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): I don't have any idea for settlement options here other than landing a visa sponsorship job and then working for 5 years. I am not thinking of getting permanently settled here. If chance is given to me, I'd love to but I need to think about it.

Try to focus on court ranking and your work experience rather than university ranking.
Tips: Students should know that the university ranking doesn't matter. What matters is the ranking of your course and the placement record of your university. You should ask previous students and alumni about the best way to know about your university and they can give you the best information. Don't just change universities based on rankings.
Likes (Indian Food): If you are concerned about finding Indian food in London, don't worry about it. There are Indian restaurants and grocery stores all over the city, and in places like Southall you can even find authentic Indian food.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): There is no campus placement office, so you are on your own to find a job after graduation. This can be a long process, as evidenced by the fact that none of my friends have found jobs in the last two years. My advice is to gain experience in India before coming here for your degree.

A good experience overall
Tips: I have not had much cultural shift because the reason might be I always stay with my Indian friends and I explore much here in the UK. I got a scholarship as I applied through a consultancy for 4000 pounds. The university is good with experienced faculty and a lively atmosphere. I have not experienced any racism of any kind. So, overall I had a positive experience with my university.
