IMS BHU is approved by the Medical Council of India and ranks 8 in the Medical and 18 in the Dental category as per the NIRF 2024 rankings. It was established in the year 1960 as a College of Medical Sciences and later on gained recognition as an Institute of Medical Sciences in 1971. The Institute offers UG and PG-level in Medicine, Ayurveda, and Dental Science. IMS BHU began with 9 departments in Medical Sciences and 1 department in Indian Medicine. IMS is one of the 6 institutes of Banaras Hindu University and has 3 faculty members (Medicine, Ayurveda and Dental Science).
