Placement results at IIT Bombay fluctuate throughout engineering departments. With major internet corporations like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Facebook offering numerous career possibilities and high salaries—often the highest across all departments—the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department often sees the highest demand. Mechanical engineering also does well; students who pursue it can find competitively paid jobs in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, automotive, and aerospace, with firms like GE, Tata Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra. There is a moderate need for chemical engineers, with the chemical, petroleum, pharmaceutical, and process engineering industries leading the placements. Out of the four, civil engineering typically has the lowest demand, with fewer companies hiring and lower average earnings, mostly from infrastructure and construction firms.
