Here are the details of placement record for the year and session ending in/until June 2016 for IIT Bombay, for all departments and courses offered including the Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay.
Placement details by range of salary offered:
Above 11 lacs: 96 Companies gave 435 offers.
Between 9.5 to 11 lacs: 48 Companies gave 177 offers.
Between 8 to 9.5 lacs: 52 Companies gave 181 offers.
Between 6.5 to 8 lacs: 50 Companies gave 155 offers.
Between 5 to 6.5 lacs: 50 Companies gave 139 offers.
Less than 5 lacs: 12 Companies gave 56 offers.
Total: 308 Companies gave 1143 Offers to various students overall.
Companies like Trident started offering 36 LPA to design students. But, it is also based on the performance of a student and how much budget the company has.

Industrial Design Centre was established in Mumbai IIT in 1969. It was very visionary decision to have this along with premier IIT. It was established primarily to encourage the study of industrial design which is of vital importance for a country on the path of industrialisation. Presently, this department offers different courses and also facilities for research also. The biggest advantage for this school of design is its co-location with IIT. Excellent academics and close interactions with industry have made placements for these professionals a very simple exercise. It's a problem of plenty with students able to choose or reject. Prefer IIT Bombay anytime over State School of Design, when it comes to B.Des Industrial design. If you have a credible body of specimen work done by you, as is expected of the students of top-notch design schools, you might get placed right on the Campus itself.or you might get work orders as a freelancer. The second option, though paying less at the initial stage, keeps the prospects open for you to get enhanced earnings as the reputation grows. So, before your academic terms end, build an impressive spec file, and have soft copies ready. If there is any work worth claiming IPR on, do take care to get these registered, before circulation.
Placements are good as there is a high demand for designers in the market. During my time, a lot of service companies like TCS, Infosys etc. came to campus for placement. However, the trend has changed to Product companies now. The minimum package you can expect is around 8L per annum and the maximum goes up to 24L for a fresher.

IIT Bombay is the best. IIT-Bombay is owned by the central government but VJTI is owned by the state government, government of Maharashtra. For IIT Bombay, one has to stay in their hostel and study. That is compulsory. But for VJTI, you can be a day student. Other than this, both are the best institutions.

Every year, thousands of students get admission in IIT-B for different courses. Do you really think that those thousands of students get hostel from the college itself? No! Firstly, you need to apply for hostel separately and then you will be allotted the room in hostel (if rooms were left). Else you have to manage your accommodation by yourself.

There is nothing like a best course. IIT is one the reputed institutes in India for Technology. Which stream of technology you want to take up as your career option is completely based on your area of interest. The institute offers courses in wide array of technology like electrical, mechanical, aerospace, computer science, civil etc.
