Indian Maritime University (IMU), Kolkata was recognised as a central university in the year 2008, under the Ministry of Shipping, GOI. In addition to its flagship 4-year B.Tech. course in Marine Engineering, it also offers PG (M.Tech. and MBA) courses, and other industry related short-term courses. The institute conducts its own entrance examination (IMU - CET) for admission to both UG and PG courses. The university is known to produce some of the best marine engineers in the world and attracts placements from the leading shipping companies in the country. IMU Kolkata AdmissionAdmission to UG and PG courses is done on the basis of cut-off in IMU-CET entrance examination conducted by the university. Admission criteria for B.Tech. Marine Engineering is minimum of 60% marks in PCM and minimum of 50% in English in 10+2 and have qualified IMU-CET. Admission criteria for M.Tech. Marine Engineering and Management is 60% marks in BE/B.Tech. in Marine Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Naval Architecture and have qualified IMU-CET. Admission criteria for MBA International Transportation & Logistics Management is 50% marks in graduation and qualified IMU-CET. Admission into other short-term courses will be based on the strict technical capabilities of the candidates as mandated by the university from time to time. The admission application process is entirely online.

During the 2018 placement drive, over 148 students had been placed.Likes: Hostel Mess Food Are Great And Healthy., No Ragging In Campus Or Off Campus Great Environment., Bathrooms Are Well Maintained And Clean.Dislikes: Teaching Procedure Is Quite Bad And Very Vast Syllabus, Water Logging Prblem Is There In Hostel.Placement Experience: College Placement Scenario is Great With 99% Placement the previous year For Boys it generally starts from 3 years But For Girls, you can get Placed in the First Year Also. To join IMU, candidates can follow these steps: Fill out the IMU CET application form on the IMU website.Submit the application form and required documents by post or email.Appear for the IMU CET admission test and score the qualifying marks.Appear for IMU counseling.The required documents include: Class 10 marksheetClass 10 passing certificateClass 12 passing certificateCategory or community certificateSoftcopy of candidate's colored photographCandidate's scanned signatureValid email ID and mobile numberCandidates joining marine programs are strongly advised to have a passport or at least apply for one at the time of admission. SC and ST candidates are eligible for a 5% relaxation in minimum marks. Admissions through IMU CET is only for Indian National. For foreign students, admissions to IMU Campuses for Undergraduate Programmes and Postgraduate Programmes will be done through “Direct Admission to Student's from Abroad (DASA) Scheme” of Ministry of Education, Govt of India.
