Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Is JNU better than DU?

A:

As per the NIRF 2024 rankings, JNU is ranked 2nd, while DU is ranked 6th under 'University' category. This clearly suggests that JNU is a better university overall. However, these rankings are based on a variety of factors. Furthermore, the best university for a student will depend on the individual needs and preferences. Here is the comparison of JNU and DU based on some key factors:

  • Academics: JNU is known for its strong academics and research focus. It has a number of world-renowned faculty members, and its students have gone on to achieve great things in their careers. DU is also a good university academically, but it is not as research-intensive as JNU.
  • Campus Life: JNU has a vibrant campus life with a strong student union. There are many student organizations and activities, and the university has a reputation for being a hotbed of political activism. DU also has a good campus life, but it is not as political as JNU.
  • Location: JNU is located in South Delhi, while DU is spread out across the city. This means that JNU students have a more central location, while DU students have more options when it comes to choosing a college or hostel.
  • Fees: The fees at JNU are lower than the fees at DU. This is because JNU is a central university, while DU is a state university.

* Scholarships: The university offers scholarships to deserving students.
* Campus Life: Students enjoy a lively campus culture with regular events, festivals, and sports competitions.

Cons:

* Limited Placements: Not all students get placed immediately after completing their degree, although some do secure internships.
* Old Curriculum: Some students felt that the course curriculum could be updated to include more industrial exposure.
* Hostel Conditions: Although the hostel facilities are generally good, some students mentioned that they needed improvement.
* Facilities for Research Students: Limited research opportunities and resources might affect students' ability to pursue higher degrees.

M.Sc. Environmental Science form JNU. Is it worth?
Placements: There is no placement committee in JNU so there is no placement from the campus. None of my juniors or seniors got a job offer directly from the campus. Others had gone for either research or taken a job from naukari. Com. The basic pay was somewhat 20-23k in Delhi which is quite low in my opinion. No company visited the campus to place anyone. Mostly all my classmates had some kind of summer internship with them though None was in any company. They all were working in some other university or in the lab of JNU only.
Infrastructure: JNU has one of the best infrastructures and provides one of the best services in India. The hostels are now fully Wi-Fi equipped and there is a separate medical center for all minor ailments. There is a sports ground for all sports activities. The labs are good and hardly lack any funding. They have almost everything to complete your Masters here. The mess food is normal but the canteen food is good. It's more economical also. The hostels are good and are on twin sharing basis. I never had any complaint regarding the hostel.
Faculty: Most of the teachers are knowledgeable and are sincere towards the job they have been given. Almost all have Ph.D. from some of the best colleges in India. The teaching methodology used is mixed and combines various aspects. It is way different than B.Sc. The student to faculty ratio is low and must be around 10:1. We all had some kind of industrial exposure as mostly in the second year we used to go outside and collect samples for our work. The curriculum is a huge advantage if you want to do some research in this field.

One of the best university in India one student can dream of.
Placements: The placement of J. N. U is at par. The students are mainly placed in the P. S. U sector and M. N. C companies. The college provides very good internship to the students. Around 90% of students are placed with avg. Of 7.5 L/year with very good ROI. Its a dream college for any undergraduate and post graduate students. The highest package goes above 10L/year. Many educational institutions do come for the placements in teaching and research field.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is extremely beautiful. One of the best university campus is of J. N. U we have in India. The labs and classrooms are very well-equipped with modern technologies and the pedagogy is also of high level with all the facilities that a college can provide. The quality of food and living is very nice in the campus.
Faculty: The faculty members present here are highly qualified maintaining very good teacher student ratio as 10:1. Every faculty here makes students think and learn something new every now and then as well as want them to be innovative and creative. The pedagogy is very high. And lot of industry exposure is also provided.
Other: The events organised in the college is extremely beautiful and appreciated by everyone. It attracts a massive crowd on any fest. The crowd campus is also very high. Here both national and international students come for studies and research work. Many scholarship schemes are there for the students which motivates them. Further many extracurricular activities takes place in the campus.

Absolutely satisfied with the faculty, good placements in 2015, and good infrastructure.
Placements: Almost 35% of students were placed in my course. The course is versatile and can be pursued by anyone. The median package offered during the placement programme at JNU University, to a UG, 3rd year of student in 2020 was INR 6.30 LPA. Further, a total of 89 students were placed out of 895 2nd year of students during the placement programme in JNU, Delhi for PG in 2020, and the median package offered was INR 7.85 LPA.
Infrastructure: The course was extremely joyful and interesting and I enjoyed course every single day. At first, I thought it would be difficult, but it turned out to be the opposite and I was very happy with that. Even the hostel rooms were also very clean and had a disease-free environment. I made many friends in the hostel and every friend was very helpful and kind.
Faculty: The teachers were highly qualified, knowledgeable, and very helpful. The teaching quality was superb and every part of the course curriculum was relevant. Not a single chapter was difficult and I loved them as they were super easy to study and it was fun giving my exams. the pass percentage was 35%.

The students must have passed a B.Tech degree with a minimum passing percentage in the aggregation of all subjects studied in the undergraduate program. The admissions are done through the entrance exam such as - GATE score merit list.

Your percentage is very low to apply. OBC category wise also it is considered low. 70% is a bit Okay.
