The best place to boost your career and personality.
Placements: Approximately 90% of our seniors are placed and others are doing startups. In higher studies, one of my seniors went to IITB to do an M.Tech. The highest package is 30 LPA in Forren only one student and our branch's package is approximately 10 LPA. The top recruiting companies are JSW and JINDAL. Very few students got internships; some are doing vocational training in RSP, and some are doing Research internships at IIT Bhubenshwar.
Infrastructure: The Department of Metallurgical and Material Engineering at NIT Rourkela is well-equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure to support both academic and research activities. Laboratories are equipped with advanced tools like TEM, SEM, XRD, and specialized labs for power metallurgy, physical metallurgy, and corrosion (in this lab, I worked on one project, and it was an amazing experience). Modern classrooms with multimedia teaching aids are available.
Faculty: The faculty at NIT Rourkela's metallurgy department are highly qualified and they provide good theoretical knowledge. If someone thinks about non-core jobs, then the course curriculum is irrelevant. If you are planning for the core job, then we need some improvement in the curriculum. Semester exams are not very tough; if you are a little aware of your study, then you will secure a good CGPA.
Other: First, college is very good and second, if I want a core job, then I prefer this college. The course will improve their structure and practical knowledge. Fest is very good as compared to others, and there is a good vibe on campus. There are more than 60 clubs at this college so don't worry about extracurricular activities.

NITR student's life in a day.
Placements: Till January 2024, up to 75% of students are already placed in our branch, and the rest are also getting placed. Till now, the highest is 12 LPA, and the lowest is 6 LPA in our branch. The top recruiting company is JSW, and many students are also interning from our branch.
Infrastructure: In our college, there are two lecture avenues, each with 60 classrooms, and in the classrooms, LAN connections are available. Additionally, some labs are present in these lecture avenues. In the hostel, LAN connections are provided, but unfortunately, Wi-Fi is not available. However, you are allowed to install a router in your room.
Faculty: Yes, our faculties are Ph.D. qualified from IITs, and the teaching quality is excellent. They possess extensive knowledge, and the teaching quality is commendable. The semester exams consist of moderate-type questions that are derived from the lectures and also from the prescribed books.

Tour of NIT Rourkela and you get to know all about it.
Placements: In my course, there is less placement because they are not eligible for many companies. But in core, we got many placement options. But then also many of our students get placed, like 60-70 percent of students get placed. And the highest package in my course is 35 lacs.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of my college is good, but in some parts it is very old, so it should be replaced or renovated, but work is in progress. The classrooms are good and well furnished, and all classes have smart classes. And the hostel rooms are also decent, and the food is also average. There are 4 main grounds for the sport, and there is a separate sports complex.
Faculty: Yes, the teachers are very helpful, well qualified, and maximum qualified from these NITs and IITs, and they also have great teaching techniques. And the curriculum is also good; the students who pay attention can be industry-ready to face all the difficulties. The semester exams are moderate and are not difficult, I think. Every student passed the exam, but 2–5 percent did not.
Other: I have interest in this course, so I have chosen it. And the campus life is also good and excellent.

My young life at NIT Rourkela.
Placements: Almost above 90% of students get placed through the placement drive at NIT Rourkela, as per the 2023 statistics, with about 315+ companies visiting the campus to offer jobs in different roles. The highest package, at 48 Lacs, is offered by Microsoft, while the lowest, approximately 6 Lacs, is offered by EXL Services. The average package stands at about 14 Lacs. Top recruiters at NIT Rourkela include Bajaj, Tata Steel, Qualcomm, Texas, etc. More than 60% of students secure internships in their pre-final year. The roles offered are mostly Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET), analyst, and Software Development Engineer (SDE).
Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure are fantastic, with Wi-Fi available in every hostel, department, and library. All classrooms are air-conditioned. The Biju Patnaik Central Library is one of the largest in Odisha, housing almost every kind of book and research material. Hostel facilities are good, with all rooms equipped with a fan, individual beds, and shelves. Day/Night canteens are present in every hostel. For medical facilities, the institute provides a 24/7 ambulance service.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified, hailing from top-notch institutes, and have notable research works in their domains. The quality of teaching is not satisfactory as you have to purchase your own materials. The curriculum is well-maintained, with the introduction of industrial projects in 2021 at NIT Rourkela. Our institute conducts 2 exams per semester, mid-terms and end-terms, which are of moderate to difficult level.
Other: I chose Metallurgy and Material Engineering due to my strong inclination towards Material Science, aiming to pursue a master's in the field. Our course could be more practical as it currently focuses mainly on theoretical subjects. Innovision (tech fest) and Nitrutsav (cultural fest) are amazing events, featuring celebrity and DJ nights. The campus crowd is competitive. The connectivity of Rourkela is poor, as there's no direct train connecting Rourkela and the airport, with only flights available to Bhubaneswar.

Good for placement. Hostel facilities are good.
Placements: In this course, 90% of students get placed every year. The highest package this year was 80 lakhs per annum, and the average package was 15-20 lakhs per annum. The top companies that hire students from this course are JSW, Tata Steel, and Hindalco. About 50% of students get internships every year.
Infrastructure: The classrooms are good for study, but there are not enough classrooms to accommodate all the students. The hostel facilities are good, and the mess food is average. The hostel rooms are cleaned every day. The campus is good for cycling, and there is ample parking space.
Faculty: The teachers at this college are highly qualified and experienced, and they are available to help students at all times. The curriculum is excellent, and the exams are not difficult. In fact, the pass percentage is 99%. This year, a new curriculum was introduced for new students.
Other: Good campus placement. Good hostel campus but the food is available.
