NIT-Rourkela is one of the best institute all over India and abroad. The NIRF ranking states, NIT-Rourkela to be in class 12th rank. Itis one of the best choice you have. Because, the placement scenario in Mining engineering, it is very good compared to other branches. Lots of companies come for placement, and now even some companies are offering Pre placement Offers. And, lot more. I think there is not a Mining company in the Country which don't come to NITR. So, you got a lots of choices. And training in Mining fields will also be given to you. Because, the real knowledge is in Mines in the field, not in the book. The opening rank for getting admission in NITR in mining engineering for SC candidates is 1848 and closing rank is 4817, for other states. And, for home state the opening rank is 3467 and closing rank is 6308. So, it may be a bit difficult for getting admission, if you do not belong to home state, but do not loose hope, if your luck favors, you can definitely get admission in NITR. NIT offers admission on the basis of JEE Main score and 75% marks in higher secondary, so you are not eligible for that and marks are also not enough to get an NIT. Don't lose hopes. Try for state government and good private universities. Good luck.

Yes, you can get into NIT - Raipur, Nagpur, Surat, Bhopal, Silchar, Jamshedpur, Durgapur, and Kurukshetra with mostly biotech, civil and chemical branches.
Though you can also opt for non-technical branches such as mining and metallurgy.

Well, for getting admission into the college NIT Rourkela, you need to qualify class 12 board exam and the JEE Mains exam. Based on your score and rank you can apply for any branch of your interest in NIT Rourkela. The criteria For candidates to qualify for admissions to NITs/IIITs/GFTIs, they should have secured at least 75% marks in class 12th exam or be in the top 20 percentile in class 12th exam conducted by the respective boards,for General students. For SC/ST candidates, the eligibility criteria is 65% marks in class 12th.The rank in JEE Mains should be Home State: Rank - 25570 and Other State: Rank - 16412 . NIT Rourkela is ranked 15th by NIRF in 2018. The placement is also good over here.
