Scope of metallurgy is good whether it is in core or non core field. Non core field has already mentioned in other answers like you can be a business analyst, can go in consultancy companies etc. You can do MBA, IAS, MS, Mtch, MSc, Mphil etc. Many non core companies come for metallurgy as well in PEC. So in non core field you have a large scope.
Now moving on to the core field. First of all only those who have interest or whose interest build with time in metallurgy goes into core. Like in my batch only 4-5 were interested in core field out of 30 students. Scope:
1. Automobile companies need Metallurgical Engineer. Eg Maruti Suzuki
2. Construction companies like L&T need Metallurgical Engineer
3. Oil companies like Indian Oil needs Metallurgical Engineer
4. Iron & Steel industry needs Metallurgical Engineers in large number like Tata Steel, Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL), Jindal Steels
5. Manufacturing Industry needs Metallurgical Engineer like foundry, forging, sheet metal companies etc.
6. There is a need of Metallurgical engineer in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), NALCO, Bureau of Indian Standards, DRDO etc.
The list goes on.
So it depends on an individual, if one has the right direction and right zeal, he/she can do anything and everything.

In case you don't get your desired college, don't settle for something mediocre. Instead of settling down for some mediocre college, it would be better if your try for some good private university. Many reputed private universities are offering B.Tech CSE. They have their different criteria for admissions. Some offer admission on basis of JEE scores, some offer admission on basis of their own tests and some offer admission on the basis of both. Some even offer direct admission on basis of class 12 marks. Some of the universities also offer scholarships on basis of your performance in class 12 or JEE or even during the course. You can check the details of any of the reputed universities like VIT, Lovely, SRM, etc. All these universities have wonderful infrastructure and world-class facilities to offer to students apart from good placements.

I would say that CSE at PEC is much better than ITY at NIT Kurukshetra. The reason being the placements of CSE at PEC are very good and the department of CSE is also very cool. They have chilled out environment.

As you are expecting a good percentage in 12th, you have good chances of getting top branches.
