Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Which entrance do I need to clear to get admission to SASTRA Deemed University for BTech?

A:

At the undergraduate level, this deemed University offers BTech across 30 specialisations along with Integrated MTech across two specialisations. Spread over four years and eight semesters, admission to BTech is possible at SASTRA Deemed University via two methods:

Stream 1: JEE Mains + Class 12 marks (50% weightage given to each), for admission to 50% of the total seats

Stream 2: Class 12 marks (100% weightage), for admission to the remaining 50%

The following qualifications must be met by the students to secure admission to BTech at Sastra:

  • Candidates must have obtained 60% aggregate in their Class 12 with Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Science, and Biology from a recognised board.
  • Taken JEE Main exam

Q:   I got 79 percentile in JEE Mains and 66% in Class 12. Will I get admission to Sastra University, Thanjavur?

A:

Based on the information you've provided, your JEE Mains percentile of 79 is decent and could be a competitive score for admission to Sastra University, Thanjavur. However, your class 12 percentage of 66% might be slightly below the usual cutoff for some courses at the university. To increase your chances of admission, I recommend checking Sastra University's official website or contacting their admission department for the specific cutoff scores and eligibility criteria for the course you are interested in.

Sastra University is known for its competitive admission process, and the cutoff marks can vary each year. It's essential to have a clear understanding of the admission requirements and eligibility criteria to make an informed decision.

In case your JEE Mains percentile meets or exceeds the cutoff set by Sastra University for your desired course, you stand a good chance of getting admission. However, if the cutoff is higher, you may consider other options or explore different courses that align with your JEE Mains score and class 12 percentage.

Remember, admissions to universities can be competitive, and it's always a good idea to have backup options. There are many other reputable institutions that offer quality education in engineering and other fields. Research thoroughly, consider all available choices, and apply to multiple universities to increase your chances of getting accepted.

I wish you the best of luck with your admission process, and I hope you find the right university and course that aligns with your academic goals and aspirations!"

Our college is good in terms of education and discipline.
Placements: The placement percentage was around 80-90%. The mass recruiting company was TCS. Around 1,600 students got placed in our college. Some major recruiting companies were HCL, Wipro, and IBM. Core companies like Ashok Leyland, L&T, Tata Motors, Philips, and Samsung visited our college to recruit students. The highest salary package offered in 2016 by Microsoft was 24 LPA. The lowest salary package offered by City Union Bank was 1.8 LPA.
Infrastructure: The food served in our college was good. The hostel was clean. Our college had a separate building for libraries, but students used to rush to the library for subject books as they were in limited numbers. There was good Wi-Fi in the girls' hostel and the whole campus. It was available near the computer block. Our college had not provided much importance to sports.
Faculty: Faculty members were good and very hardworking. They taught us by using books. They provided less practical knowledge. They provided ample amount of time to their students. Semester exams were moderate. The passing percentage was 70%. Most faculty members were passed out from this college only.
Other: Our college is good but far. Our college provides much exposure to students in terms of placements and technical events.

Good placements in 2022.
Placements: Percentage of students placed is 90%. All the service based companies like tcs, cts, Infosys, wipro, etc. visit the college. Many product based companies like walmart, paypal, wellsfargo, amazon, freshworks, zoho, etc. also visit here.
Infrastructure: In first year, 5 students get one room and from the next year onwards, students are given the choice to choose rooms (single, double, four in one or five in one). Wi-Fi is available in hostels. Gym facilities are available. Hostel food is okay (only veg).
Faculty: There will be 3 internal exams and one final exam per semester plus lab practical exams. Minimum 75% attendance is required to appear for semester exams if conditions are not met, you will not be able to appear for exams under any circumstances. One can clear final examination with the help of notes gathered in classroom.

In this college, proper training is not provided to students for their placements.
Placements: Placements have just started. Students have not been given training for placements properly this time, and it is conducted only for 8 days. So if students can prepare by themselves, then they will get placed, otherwise, it will be difficult to secure a job with a decent package.
Infrastructure: Laboratories are well-equipped, and the infrastructure of this college is also good. However, most classrooms are old. Hostel facilities are not good, and there are many rules for girls. Girls cannot go off-campus except when they go home for holidays. Also, students have to reach the hostel by 6.00 PM. The food quality is not good. The power and Wi-Fi facilities are not good in a hostel. The library is good in our college.
Faculty: Faculty members are highly skilled and knowledgeable in their fields. However, very few of them are efficient teachers. Semester exams are difficult. Sometimes when I perform well my scores are not good, but when I perform average my score is good. I would have to spend Rs 1000 to know where I went wrong.

Review of SASTRA (Deemed to be University).
Placements: Around 8-10% of students are placed in our course. The average salary package offered ranges from 7 LPA - 9 LPA. The highest salary package offered is 13 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 4 LPA. The top recruiting companies are Mindtree, Deloitte, Amazon, Paypal, and TCS. Around 30-40% of students get internships.
Infrastructure: The electrical department has one of the best infrastructures. Classrooms are average and they do have projectors. Students also have a huge library, and there are many collections on various topics in this course. The hostel is the main problem, and the food served in the hostel is not good. Sports like basketball, volleyball, football ground, and tennis courts are also available. It also has a mini-clinic for medical facilities, but sometimes the cost is high.
Faculty: In this college, teachers and their way of teaching are sometimes out to date. But they do have a better knowledge regarding the subject. The course curriculum is updated, but it would not make students ready for the industry. The pass percentage is around 50%. Semester exams are moderate in this college.
Other: It is a place to learn more about themselves.

Satisfied with our college because of infrastructure, faculty and good placements every year.
Placements: 100% students were placed in different companies. The highest package offered was 35 LPA, and the lowest is 4.5 LPA with the average package having 10 LPA. TCS, Infosys, Electra visit the campus for placements. About 100% students will get their interns in the prefinal year. 3D printing is one of the famous roles offered in our college.
Infrastructure: Our college contains all the required infrastructure. The things from the substation to civil survey areas are arranged inside the college. The food inside the college is pretty good that every student will be satisfied with that. Canteens and medical facilities are also available for students.
Faculty: The teachers are really helpful, and all the staff are well-qualified and knowledgeable. They help us personally also to get back our courses and projects. The staff help in the preparation for all the semester exams to overcome the difficulty of every subject.
Other: I was interested in electrical systems. So this is the reason why I took this course. The best thing in this course is the substantial current transfer from one place to another. All the events and cultural activities are conducted every month.
