Good college, with ample opportunities to enrich skills. Placements are good.
Placements: Around 85% of students got placed from SRMIST. I got to know from seniors and college faculty members, that the average salary package offered is 8 LPA. There are both product-based companies and mass recruiters at our college, offering many opportunities. Placements depend on how well you develop your skills. The highest salary package offered is 50 LPA. There are internship opportunities if you join a club. Last year, Microsoft visited campus and around 2 students got their chance.
Infrastructure: SRM has good infrastructure with classrooms (air-conditioners rarely felt) and a two-floor library. Wi-Fi is available in college. Hostels are safe with strict security and no ragging. The hostel food is good with a daily new menu. There is a pool and two large grounds.
Faculty: Teachers are friendly, knowledgeable (mostly PhDs), and teach well. The course curriculum is relevant, with boot camps and club courses available. Marks are split into 60% internal (exams, assignments) and 40% external (semester exams, 75 marks) both are of easy to medium level.
Other: I chose this course due to the AI boom, which is creating numerous job opportunities in the IT sector. The best part is the high demand for skilled professionals. However, I feel the curriculum could improve by removing biology and chemistry, which are taught only in first two semesters. SRM hosts Aarush a renowned teach fest and offers various clubs across different domains. Campus has a diverse crowd and SRM provides multiple scholarships.

Life of a girl in SRMIST.
Placements: My course is B.Tech CSE with a specialization in Data Analysis. There are around 200 students in my course. The highest salary package offered is 15 LPA, and there is no information regarding the lowest salary package. However, our course is great if one is opting for higher studies.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is great. Wi-Fi is available all around the campus. Buildings are very well-maintained and built in such a way that looks real. However, the same can't be said for all hostels, some are well-maintained while others are neglected.
Faculty: Faculty members are average, especially South Indian ones, whose English heavy accent makes English difficult to understand. They are not cooperative. However, not all faculty members are same. The course curriculum is very good and nicely planned and executed.
Other: I chose this course because I am interested in Data Science, and as far as the student clubs are concerned they are very active around campus.

Good infrastructure and relevant course curriculum .
Placements: The percentage of students placed in my course was 60–70%. The average package offered in my course was 7-8 LPA. The average package in 2024 was 15% more than that in 2023. The top recruiters were Aditya Birla Group, Air Asian, Apollo Tires, HUL, Honda, Hyundai, Infosys, Informatica and more.
Infrastructure: There is an availability of both indoor and outdoor sports facilities, fitness centers, etc. A well-stocked library with both online and printed resources, well-equipped laboratories, seminar halls, auditoriums and a clean and green campus. The quality of food available in the mess as well as canteen is decent.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful, qualified and knowledgeable. The teaching quality is also good. The semester exams are not too difficult to pass. You need to attend classes regularly and keep track of all the assignments and projects to score well in semester exams.
Other: The course curriculum is relevant, and it makes the students industry-ready. Events are organized year-round, which includes various competitions, fests, seminars, etc.

Absolutely dissatisfied with the high tuition fee as compared to the placement scenario.
Placements: The placement opportunities provided at our college is average. Companies came to campus looking for students with a variety of skills. Most companies required a minimum GPA of 8 to be eligible to interview.
Infrastructure: Labs were perfectly fine and had the proper equipment. The chemistry lab, engineering graphics lab, semiconductors lab, and various other coding core subject labs were all well-equipped. The campus has Wi-Fi, and the classrooms have projectors and centralized AC. The hostel facilities are good, and the quality of the food in the mess is average. Medical facilities are superb, as there is a medical college and hospital on campus with a great network of doctors. Sports facilities are good, with badminton courts, basketball courts, a swimming pool, and cricket nets. We can also play table tennis in the hostels.
Faculty: I likedThe teachers are very helpful and always willing to provide guidance and assistance. They are well qualified and knowledgeable, especially the math and chemistry faculty members. The course curriculum is relevant, although the mandatory biology subject was not required for one semester. The semester exams were moderately difficult, and the pass percentage was 50%.
Other: I chose this course because I had an interest in computer science. The best things about the course are learning about technology and acquiring the skills needed to be industry-ready. However, some zero-credit subjects need improvement. The events and fests are amazing. Two fests are held: "Aarush," a teach-fest, and "Milan," a cultural fest. The campus is lush green and spread over 250 acres. Scholarships are awarded based on the rank scored in the SRMJEEE exam.

SRM - Beyond the Brochure .
Placements: Approximately 85–90% of students sitting in placements are placed in different packages. Top companies like Junglee Games, RedBus, MotorQ, etc. do come for excellent job roles. Big companies like Goldman Sachs give marquee placements. The average package or CTC for the college is 9 LPA, whereas as the college does provide internship opportunities, but the conversion rate is quite low .
Infrastructure: The Wi-Fi is not that great, and the mess is not up to the mark. The hostels are well-equipped, but at times lift problems are there. The food quality of the mess is terrible, to be honest. The food quality at the canteen is comparatively better than the mess. The classrooms of university building are good but the classrooms of tech park are terrible .
Faculty: The faculty members are very biased and tend to give an edge to the local native students of the state. The curriculum is as per the NAAC and accreditation. The course does make the students industry-ready with the subjects and labs in the course. The semester exams are moderate; they are more like the summary of the class tests .
Other: The things to improve are the loft and some infrastructure facilities of the teach park and lift management and improving the quality of guards that know how to behave and talk.

Students also asked

Q:   Can I join SRM IST without the entrance?

A:

Yes, SRM University offers direct admission to certain programs for eligible candidates who meet the required eligibility criteria. The admission criteria for these programs may include past academic performance, work experience, and other relevant factors. However, for most of the programs offered by SRM University, admission is through the SRMJEEE (SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination) or other national level entrance exams.

Therefore, it is recommended that you check the specific admission requirements for the programme you are interested in on the university's website or by contacting the admissions office. In case you do not qualify for direct admission or wish to appear for the entrance exam, you can apply for SRMJEEE and appear for the exam. The exam is conducted annually and is the basis for admission to several programs offered by the university.

Q:   Is SRM Kattankulathur costly to study BTech?

A:

SRM Kattankulathur is a private university, so the tuition fees is relatively high. However, it is still more affordable than many other private universities in India. The tuition fees for BTech at SRM Kattankulathur range from INR 10 lakh - INR 18 lakh, depending on the specialisation.

In addition to tuition fees, students also need to pay other fees such as hostel fees, mess fees, and exam fees. The cost of hostel, mess and laundry can range from INR 1 lakh to INR 2.5 lakh per year, depending upon the room or bed you wish to choose. Whether or not SRM Kattankulathur is costly to study BTech depends on your financial situation as well.

Q:   Is SRM University good for B.Tech?

A:

Here are some positive and negative points of SRM University:

Positive:

  1. Located in Chennai which is a metropolitan city. Three out of five campuses are located in Chennai
  2. You can have a lot of fun
  3. In KTR, there are a lot of opportunities provided to students to develop their profile like hundreds of clubs, teams like robocon, conrods, camber, and 4ze where students can build their own bots, cars and stuff. If you are really interested in your field then you can do anything in SRM
  4. Canteen facilities are excellent
  5. As far as placements are concerned, most students are placed in IT sector. Core companies also visit the campus but they select only one or two students. In a batch of 500600 students i.e. 1520 students are placed in core companies. But still that depends on your skills and we can’t blame the university for that.

Negative:

  1. The student to faculty ratio is too high.
  2. Faculty members are not very highly skilled, though they are postgraduates in their respective field. Most of them have completed M.Tech from other local colleges. There are very few from IITs and foreign universities.
  3. The curriculum is old.
  4. The evaluation system is also not very good.
  5. Very little research happens here. Most of the faculty members don’t have any publications
  6. Also, if you have a lot of money you can join in management quota into any branch you want. Almost half of the students have joined in management quota.

All the best.
