If you are looking for the upper branches then your rank should be less than twenty five thousand. Basically there are two groups and different categories which indicates branch and fee structure respectively. If you are looking for main campus Vellore then your rank should not be more than 99,000. Admission through management quota is also possible under certain parameters.

Yes, you will definitely get EC branch in VIT Chennai and even you can get CSE core in VIT Vellore.

Without management quota, your rank should be below 8000 and for IT to be 11000 to be precise for a confirmed seat in category 1 there. This year in Phase 1 counselling day 1, ranks from 1-8000 were called and to my surprise, all the seats of CSE branch were filled. Don't worry! If you don't get a seat in category 1, then you have to manage to get a rank between 20000-30000, then also your seat is confirmed in CSE branch but that would be under category 2 to category 4 (i.e fees increases as category number increases) and you have to pay higher fees than category 1.

For VIT Chennai, the no. of students who sat for placements were around 200 (maybe a little more). The number of core companies which came for placements in 2016 are as follows:

Yes, there is no doubt that VIT is more preferred over Vellore, as it is their main campus. They actually have an advantage that Bengaluru is the largest Technological hub of India, so they have a great location advantage, and they have a very good faculty base, as I was told by a relative of mine who studied there. So, I would recommend to go for VIT-Vellore.

Vellore and Chennai Campus students enjoy equal privileges as far as placements are considered. While most of the students (including CSE) are placed in IT majors like Accenture Cognizant Infosys etc. with a salary package of INR 3.5-4 lakhs on an average, but a good number of students are placed in top tech companies like Google Microsoft Ebay Flipkart Amazon etc. with salary of above INR 10 lakhs with the highest being INR 18lakhs/24lakhs as far as I know .Placements are centralised. Chennai Campus students are taken to Vellore for placements. Now as far as seats are considered it is approximately 200-250. Get a rank under 13000 to get a chance to join here.
