But with donation that is phase 2 fees which is quite higher than phase 1 fees you can get other branches.

Cs & IT usually fill fast and for rank above 50k would be available in cat. 4/5 whose fees is quite higher
Conclusion Cs IT difficult to get

If opting other branches then chances increase to a good no.

Both Thapar and VIT are excellent, however, From my point of view Thapar is better than VIT in terms of placements, faculty support, and infrastructure.
