There are plenty of colleges which offer lateral entry in India but not possible in VIT. I don't remember when there was lateral entry last time in VIT. Very similar to VIT one college SRM do offer lateral entry so you can try your luck there. There are less number of seats in SRM so you need to apply at the earliest.

If you are looking for the upper branches then your rank should be less than twenty five thousand. Basically there are two groups and different categories which indicates branch and fee structure respectively. If you are looking for main campus Vellore then your rank should not be more than 99,000. Admission through management quota is also possible under certain parameters.

With that rank you will get electronics & instrumentation engineering in Vellore campus. Computer science specialization closing rank is 9000 and CSE core in 6000 rank. It depends upon students skills. Some Company pay Rs.5000, some pay Rs.8000, Some pay 12000 in small cities. Two days back only one of Student Kishan Vishwakarma has been offered a Salary of Rs.20000.00 by Maya Digital Studio and open offer to join any day. It all depends on one's skills. If you are merely a software operator growth will be limited, but if you are creative, there are unlimited chances to exhibit your creative talent via job, freelancing or self employment.

At my admission time, there was only Vellore and Chennai branch two years ago and these branches are recently opened by VIT. Let me explain you the admission system here. Rank in VIT to get admission should be 90,000. So, you can get admission in VIT from the 6th category as well. There are various categories as well with each category admission fees go high. First category closed till 15,000 rank and you can get CSE till 9000 rank and IT till 11000 rank but there are 2nd category as well if you want CSE but you have to pay more for that. Bhopal and Amravati branches are opened recently. So, the rank to VIT university may go high as expected. Can't tell which branch you get but it's sure you will get any branch from higher category. So, you have to pay more for that.
