Please mention your rank in VITEEE with marks. I think it's too late for deciding to join VIT, Vellore or Chennai campus because in both the campus admission has been closed for all the branches but for your information I can say that if your rank is good like under 6000 then there will be many options for you in terms of branches including you can get CSE branch also with some specialisation here. Also whatever fee structure you have seen in brochure is just for category 1, not other categories if your rank is low then also you can get CSE branch but fee structure will change for you means fee structure of category in which you are.
You should go for counseling process also which is the first step towards admission. If you have done counseling then you can contact VIT office. You can get VIT contact number on its website. For more information please mention your rank in VITEEE because there is very wide spectrum which will surely depend on your rank.
Try to be in VIT, Vellore if possible otherwise Chennai is also good.

VIT is one of the top ranked Private universities in India and it provide the placements around 90-100% and the maximum of the students get the average package from 4.5-60 LPA.
If we talk about the placement in last year i.e in 2016Packages given for mechanical engineers from VIT was moderate. I wouldn't say it is too high either. The placement percentage was around 94, which is a good number.
The highest package in the year 2016 was 22.6 L which was by West line ship management. The average package offered was 6.3 L, which is a reasonable amount.
These are the list of companies which recruited mechanical engineers in the year 2016
Fiat, Chrystler, Hyundai, Ford, Hexagon, Ashyi Glass, Seagate, Caterpillar, Maruti, L&T, Whirlpool, Renault, Nissan, Mahindra, Honeywell, Cummins, IFB, GMC, Hero Motocop , MRF, Cognizant.
The highest package is given only to one or two students who are extraordinary and have the full knowledge and passion about their BRANCH rest all are average student. So, please do not get attracted by the highest package just because usually MECHANICAL engineers do get this package because it is the core branch but only to those who is best in that field.

Hello,
Anxiety about packages at the time of placements is an activity, that every student has to undergo. But anxiety should spur you into doing better and not bogging you down.
Packages are strictly a function of demand & supply. Also, your academics. Employers surely will like to get best value for their money. Hence top packages are offered only to 1 or 2 students.
Presently, IT rules the roost & if you are in top five of your batch you can expect 6-10 L. Others would get about 3-5 L.

Hi,
99% of the companies (core or IT) offer at least 3.25 lakhs to ECE undergrads. Core companies generally offer somewhere in the vicinity of 5.6 lakhs, some might even offer 10 lakhs+. Companies like Cadence, Cisco, McKinsey, Schlumberger, KLM Tencor, Future first, which offer salary of 10 lakhs+ (have a selection process with a difficulty level that matches their pay package). So, you need to be really smart and really lucky to get through. Then there are few less paying firms like HP, Deloitte, Sapient, GM, GE and list goes on.
All these pay above 5 lpa but less than 8lpa.
And then there's mass recruitment, Accenture/ Wipro/ Infy etc. These also pay above 3 lpa but less than 4 lpa.

I would go for VIT any day just because the college has a better reputation ranking 6th on the list of the best private, while SRM ranks 11th on the same list.
Life at VIT is a little more hectic and restricting than life at SRM, this is because of the fact that you will have to solve daily assignments and your classes runs from 8:00 to 7:00 if you belong to CSE in the first year, this is the case at VIT.
While at SRM, you have classes till 5:00 in the first year, and there are no such assignments. Also, you get to go out as many times as you want to, unlike VIT.
So in clear sense, you get to have much more freedom at SRM.
Placements:
More core companies visit VIT in comparison to SRM and so the placements at VIT are certainly a lot better.
Fees:
You have to pay a lot more at SRM if you happen to secure a rank more than SRMJEEE than you get to pay at VIT. Also, the hostel facility is also more expensive at SRM than in comparison to VIT.
With this, I hope you make the right choice.
Cheers!

Yes you can but you have to take admission as a new student. Like you have to pay the fees and all the processes will be again. But you will get the admission in management quota in 2nd category.
