Highest salaries are generally in the range of 20-25 LPA at VIT University. These packages are mostly offered by IT companies to CS/IT students. The least package will be around 3 LPA

Both are good colleges, but considering your rank you will get mechanical engineering in category 2 or 3 of VIT-Vellore, but in my opinion you will get more exposure in VIT, Vellore than SRM University.

As you have said that, you have dropped a year so, if you drop another year, it may harm as, university and companies may question about the gap. I would suggest you to take admission in VIT.
