Founded in 1836, Alfred University is the second oldest co-educational college in the United States of America. The institution was built upon the ideological foundations of liberty and independence. The institution currently offers a range of programs like Liberal Arts and Sciences, Art and Design, Engineering, Business education, and Psychology. Located in the foothills of the beautiful Allegheny Mountains, the university gets its name from the village of Alfred, which is part of the state of New York. At the undergraduate level, Alfred University offers 47 major courses and over 65 minor courses. There are four private colleges on the campus of Alfred University, which are — The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, The College of Professional Studies, The Inamori School of Engineering, and the Graduate School. The School of Business is a part of the College of Professional Studies.

The campus also houses The New York State College of Ceramics (NYSCC). This state-sponsored college comprises the School of Art and Design. The university also has provisions for off-campus courses. The Ceramic Art Program at Alfred University is ranked number one in the United States.
