Baylor’s Career Centre has been putting tremendous effort into shaping students’ bright futures, giving fruitful results. Right from guiding the incoming students regarding their course selection, helping the outgoing lot in choosing a graduate school to sort out their doubts and misconceptions regarding any particular profession or field, it has supported students in the best manner possible. The centre reported that a greater number of graduates witnessed placements in Spring 2020 as compared to 2019, even though the scenario picturized was the opposite due to the pandemic effects.
New employers were contacted for employment opportunities to widen the career horizons of students. The university has contacted over 3,500 employers in the past few years. As a result of having a pool of high-calibre students and the university’s image and great work ethics, the student placement outcome was really good.
Some of the facilities offered for the university students’ convenience and betterment are:
Career Success Professionals (CSP): These professionals are experts in academic areas with particular majors. Their job is to help students find the right professional direction, weave a good resume, search for internships and jobs, polish their interview skills, build networks, etc.
Career Fest: A campus-wide career fest is hosted every fall and spring and different employers from varied fields connect with students from all majors and study domains. Employers from numerous industries approach students by offering placements and internships.
Career assessments: These are tools which are available at the Career Center, including the Super Strong Interest Inventory.
Handshake: This is a hiring platform which helps connect current students and alumni with the right resources regardless of their majors and colleges. Students are connected to a comprehensive national network. Students can also make use of the available tools such as VMock and JobScan to build impressive resumes. A tool called Quinncia helps in gaining confidence for interviews. A one-on-one meeting can also be conducted with career coaches for career guidance and motivation.
