The King’s College is a Catholic liberal arts college located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1946 by the Congregation of Holy Cross from the University of Notre Dame. The home base of the college is primarily in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions. It is famous for its state-of-the-art technology and campus-wide computer systems. There are over 50 clubs and activities in the college. The college has an average class size of 18, and a student-to-faculty ratio of 12:1. Around 65% of all students graduate within six years of entering and on average five years. Almost 99% of the graduates get placement offers and are employed within six months of graduation. The college has a big campus sprawling across 50 acres and includes Burke auditorium, counseling center, business office, Shoval center, residence halls, campus ministry, theatre, gym annex, Regina court, library, sports center, and more.

King’s College offers 41 undergraduate majors and nine graduate programs to its students. Popular courses like 3+2 dual degree in Athletic Training and Nursing 1-2-1 program are also offered here. Eligibility & Documents Required


What are the eligibility requirements?


The eligibility criteria for undergraduate and graduate students are:

Undergraduate Admissions: UG applicants should have a high school certificate or diploma or a Grade 12 pass certificate. The average GPA requirement at King’s College is 3.57, and the applicant must be 18 years or above at the time of starting the course.

Graduate Admissions: Students are required to have a high school certificate and undergraduate degree or diploma to take admission to the graduate program. Course-specific requirements can be found on the respective course pages on the university website. Students must have proficiency in both written and spoken English, and have competitive scores in English proficiency tests.

 

SAT/ACT Optional

The college is test optional, however, if you wish to submit SAT or ACT score, the college will consider it. SAT or ACT are not required for most programs except a few like the Physician Assistant & Engineering (3+2 programs). The average SAT score required at the college is 1140 (composite Critical Reading + Math) and the average ACT score is 23. However, students with below-average criteria also get selected if they have exceptional academic performance.

 

English Language Proficiency

Is there any application fees?


Undergraduate applicants applying directly from the university’s portal are not required to pay an application fee. An application fee of USD 50 is charged from international students applying online through the Common Application portal. A non-refundable amount of USD 35 is charged for postgraduate courses.


What is the fee structure of courses offered by the college?


The graduation fee of the college is based on per credit hour. Students can calculate their graduation fees by multiplying the number of credits with the rates mentioned by the college. The credit per hour rates for graduate students are as follows:

Scholarships & Financial Aid


Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?


King’s College offers various scholarships based on merit to international undergraduate students only. Graduate applicants cannot avail any college scholarship. The scholarship amount ranges between USD 10,000 and USD 18,000. Students can renew the scholarships during their four years of study based on their academic performance at the end of each year/semester. The college will automatically evaluate the academic performance and consider students for these scholarships. Students are not required to submit a separate application for scholarship consideration. King’s College does not offer any institutional or US financial aid for international students.

When do the admissions start?


King’s College has two intake: Fall and Spring. Most programs are offered in the Fall intake, while, a few courses may have double intakes. For PG applications, deadlines are given below:

International UG students can either apply directly to the college using its application portal or apply through the Common Application portal. Students are advised to apply through the Common App if they are applying to other US universities as well.

When will I hear from the college after I submit my application?


After you submit your application and once it is received at the admissions office, a file containing all the information you provided is created. Students are expected to receive a notification in a few weeks about the application receipt. If information or documents are missing, the admissions office will contact you right away to complete the application. After a decision is made, a mail will be sent to students regarding their admission. Hence, the whole process might take between 4-8 weeks or longer, depending on the requirements.

What are the chances to get into this college?


Due to a large number of applications every year, the college has become more selective than before. Thus, being a competitive college to get in, the applicants are assessed based on grades, courses undertaken, ranks, standardized test results, personal interviews, references, application questions, extracurricular activities, special talents and skills, geographic location, and ethnicity. Admission officers often evaluate an application on how competitive the candidate’s college/school was as compared to their education system. They look at all the aspects of a student’s high school experience, grades, and academic results to measure intelligence, scope, and strength. However, only a small number of students get selected. So, students must have a good educational history and test scores to get into this college. The average SAT of the students is 1140 and the average GPA is 3.57.

Part Time Work While Studying


Can I work while studying here?


Students can work on and off-campus along with their studies. As per the standard guidelines, students can work for 20 hours in a regular session. During vacations and summer holidays, students can work full-time, i.e., 40 hours. The eligibility criteria for working in the USA is as follows:

  • Students must have a social security number (SIN)
  • Have a valid legal work permit
  • Enrolled in a full-time program at the college

Students may check out the open job positions on the college’s website. Students are allowed to work for summer internships or full-time jobs during vacations. If students want to work on-campus in customer service, the job responsibilities include providing customer service to students and faculty, with proficiency in Excel or Word to create and record the data. The pay varies based on the job role. The average pay rate is USD 7.25 per hour. Students can work as food service workers, if interested. The pay rate for food service workers is USD 8.00 per hour. For a support staff in the early learning center, the pay rate is USD 10 per hour. Students can check the academic skills required for all the jobs available on the college’s website.

Is on-campus housing available?


The college offers both on and off-campus housing accommodations to the students. There are over seven residence halls on the campus. The Holy Cross is for male students and the Esseff Hall is a women-only residence. The Luksic Hall is a co-ed living residence. Alumni Hall, Flood Hall, and O’Hara Hall offer apartment-style living for three-four people per apartment. Students can choose residence halls based on their style and preferences. A majority of residence halls offer 24-hour computer labs and laundry services.

Other facilities of the residence halls and accommodations include wireless internet, micro fridge rentals, TV, cable, air-conditioning, housekeeping, bed, chair, desk, dresser, closet, etc. The rates of the residence houses for an academic year are as follows:

Meal Plan and Dining Services

King’s College has partnered with Chartwells Higher Education as its dining services provider. Dining at King’s includes value-oriented meal plans, residential dining, and retail dining options like Chick-fil-A and King’s on the Square.

For international students King’s Dining Services offers a variety of meal plan options. Students who plan to live in Holy Cross, Esseff or Luksic Halls should be aware that they are required to choose from the 250, 225, or 200 block plans, as the rooms in those buildings do not have private kitchens. Second year students living in college apartments (Alumni Hall, Flood Hall, O’Hara Hall or the Alley Center) must choose the 250, 225, 200 or 125 meal plans.

Students living in apartments on or off campus are not required to have a meal plan, but may opt for one. Meals can be used at any dining location, except Chick-fil-A. Flex dollars can be used at any dining location, including Chick-fil-A.
